On April 10th 2020 in the midst of a national lockdown due to the Covid19 pandemic we received a series of letters through relatives which dated back to 1918. These letters were written by Andree Murray to her husband Fred Luscome who was fighting in the world war. The contents of these letters describe the hardship of a farming community undergoing the influenza pandemic of the 1900’s.
We decided to make a short film inspired by these letters as we saw several similarities as well as stark contrasts between then and now. This film echoes the uncertainties of a pandemic by highlighting the weight it puts on our mental health, our communities and livelihoods.
Directed, filmed and edited by Ollie Walker & Paige Fiddes.
